Nuclear Reactors Make ISIS an Apocalyptic Threat
A terror attack has put atomic reactors in Ukraine at the brink of another Chernobyl-scale apocalypse. Transmission lines have been blown up. Power to at least two major nuclear power stations has been “dangerously” cut. Without emergency backup, those nukes could lose coolant to their radioactive cores and spent fuel pools. They could then melt or explode, as at Fukushima. Yet amidst endless reporting on ISIS, the corporate media has remained shockingly silent on this potential catastrophe.

Toronto politicians to discuss emergency response for nuclear power plants
The question of whether the radius of the "primary response zones" around Ontario nuclear generating facilities should be increased from 10 to 50 kilometres was discussed at Toronto City Council on Dec. 1. Good news: Exec. Cttee unanimously passed a motion asking for a report from city staff on international best practices for emergency planning, the appropriateness of the limited 10 km KI distribution and the Darlington hearings.

Quebec premier pitches baseload hydro power Quebec Premier went to Boston on Friday to pitch hydro-electricity from QC as a source of baseload power for New England, a low-carbon-emission replacement for nuclear and coal power plants scheduled to go offline in the next few years. Ontario should be bidding for that power to replace our high-cost and high-risk nuclear rebuild projects at Darlington and Bruce.

Premier pledges 50% renewable energy in Sask. by 2030 Now if only they would stop mining uranium. SK is the second largest exporter of uranium in the world. The only uses for uranium are nuclear power and nuclear weapons. We have no solution for the waste which remains deadly for 1 million years.

Vote for EDF to win the Pinocchio Award in Paris French energy company EDF is using its controversial sponsorship of the international climate talks in Paris to launch a large-scale PR campaign to brand nuclear power as a ‘carbon-free’ and ‘clean’ energy source. In fact, nuclear is anything but clean, and escalating costs and subsidies are better spent on genuine solutions. Vote here.
